Gathering herbs and mushrooms is a way of finding usable healing items while on the move. 

You may pick up herbs in the forests and some village garden areas.

You'll see a floating icon on the map. Just walk up to it and press the action button. 

You will find the item in your items menu. You can view a description of the item 

to find out what it can do for recovery.

Bonus Time

 

When gathering you will receive a chance for Gather Star Mode. This will double the chances of more items dropping. You can move to different areas without losing the bonus also. 

A 2 x Gather Bonus mode will happen at any time while you are un a area where you can gather. It's timed so rush around and collect as many as you are able to.

There, hiding in plain sight. A star!? There is your bonus item, one of many random items will be given by picking up this item found in Gather Frenzy Mode.

Herbalists

 

Herbalists will buy your herbs for higher prices than the store. You may also sell all as an option. Recently updated, you can sell just one type of item rather than all of them, so you may keep a hold of the ones you most need. 

You can hold 20 of any item that stacks, so keep checking to make sure that you don't fill up too much with items. You will lose any you try to pick up when you reach 20 items stacked.
